There are two ways of producing cross linked polyethylene foam, chemically cross linking and irradiated cross linking. XPE foam sheets are produced by the first method.
DCP(cross linking agent) is mixed up with polymer so that the sheets are cross linked and foamed at the same time. This process need to be cautious in order to balance the decomposition of DCP and AC(foaming agent) because the heat of mixture increases.
Other additives includes: stabilizing agent, activating agent, color master and flame retardant.
Note: IXPE foam is cross linked by irradiation, while XPE foam is by foaming agent.
Performances of XPE foam sheets as well as other foam material depends on following elements:
-type of polymer
-amount of open cells and closed cells
-additives to improve performances
-the structure and integrity of foam cells
XPE foam sheets consists of non-toxic cross linking and foaming agent. In the meantime, its closed cell structure can resist water, moisture and sound.
